Marble sky

The Castlewood Canyon is a stunning place to spend a few hours. And fall is definitely the best time to do it ;) All the trails in the park are easy (except the longest one, but who takes it, right?) and the weather is... um... the weather is actually challenging. On the flatlands it is often windy, which makes you think about more clothes to wear, but in the inner canyon it's windless and hot, and you immediately start peeling all the clothes you just put on... But... this is a small inconvenience, other than that this park is absolutely beautiful and popular... Today we started from the main parking lot and quickly figured out that today was special... special because of the sky that was looking absolutely amazing...

 

Castlewood Canyon - textures and shapes...

Castlewood Canyon is one of my favorite places to hike in Colorado. We hiked there in Summer and Spring, and enjoyed the Fall time too. I guess we never tried it in Winter, but... located just outside of the town of Franktown this park is easily accessible and always fun to explore. There are several hikes to choose from and... this place is just perfect! The surroundings look so colorful when the trees are changing colors (click here to check it out - Castlewood Canyon park again, but from another angle) and I believe the Fall time is the best. But Spring also has its own beauty. Even everything looks bare and faded... there is still a lot to see and enjoy (click here to look - Castlewood Canyon park. Still bare and colorless). But last Sunday we didn't really hike (thanks to the strong and gusty wind), but strolled leisurely and... looked around...

This place is magical. It is always beautiful, it doesn't matter if you hike there during hot Summer days or cold Spring mornings. Fall time is definitely the best (just look here if you don't believe me - Castlewood Canyon park again, but from another angle). But Spring is special. Even when the colors are faded and there is no green grass or leaves, this place still looks very attractive.

Just yesterday we were hiking in the Castlewood Canyon park and I told you this is a unique place to visit. But, in fact, it is even better than what we saw during this hike. Wonna to know why? Let's travel a bit and see the same place but from a different angle. And to make it even more interesting, let's travel back in time too ;) Not too much, actually, I don't invite you to see back in a million years, just a few months....

 

Castlewood Canyon, Sunday hike in April

Hidden in the rolling prairie on Highway 83 near Franktown, Colorado, is Castlewood Canyon State Park. Don’t drive by too fast, or you’ll miss it. Many people don’t even know it’s there. It’s worth the drive from Denver or Colorado Springs, because this park has several unique features other local parks don’t have.
