People usually come to the Botanic Garden to admire the flowers,
and there are plenty of them all summer long. But in September, you'll
see fewer bright and colorful blooms. But... they're still there, and
fall flowers are different from spring and summer ones...
The Denver Botanic Garden is home to many hummingbirds, but they're
usually too fast to fly around and don't stay in one place for long.
But not this time. :) The first hummingbird I saw that day was feeding
on this canna lily in the middle of the pond. Well... it was very sweet
of it to linger long enough for me to photograph it. :)
I wandered around the pond, admiring the water lilies. White and pink, big and small...
Walking around the pond, I reached a patch of salvias and... to my
surprise, I spotted more hummingbirds there :) Well... no
complaints ;) All in all, it was a pleasant encounter :)
I returned back to the pond, where more lilies had opened up...
And once again - hummingbirds. I expected them to migrate somewhere
warm... but it seems Denver in September is warm enough for them to
stay here for a while and gather strength for the long journey...
All in all, I enjoyed the company of these small, fast-flying beauties ;)
Tired... or simply waiting for someone? Not sure what that was, but this bird sat on this flower for quite a while...
Back to salvias (a different species this time) and to the
hummingbirds who were constantly flying around. Probably the last nectar
of the year was so tasty and they cannot get enough of it :)
Honestly, I don't remember seeing so many hummingbirds in the
garden on any given day. At least, not many that were willing to pose
for me and didn't fly away like little rockets ;)
