Yeah... it’s October, and everything tells us that fall is here.
The foliage is changing colors and... surprisingly, the flowers are
still blooming. But let’s stop for a second and look at the leaves...
bright red with brownish edges... aren’t they simply beautiful?
What I didn’t expect to find in the garden in the middle of October were water lilies. But... there were still plenty of them in the ponds. I didn’t have a chance to see them fully opened since I only spent a couple of morning hours in the Denver Botanic Gardens, so I admired the half-open blooms instead...
And the leaves... dry leaves everywhere... on the grass, on the
trails, on the juniper bushes, floating on the water’s surface... just
everywhere!
The sun was still low, shining through the weeping birch branches and making the leaves glow...
I simply love these flowers. Long, curvy stems that look so simple and yet so intricate at the same time...
Oh, those yellowing leaves... aren’t they gorgeous?
The sumac bush was glowing in the morning light - it was really hard to pass by without stopping.
Back to the pond. To see more water lilies :)
This glowing birch again.
And sumac bush. Right, you get me - I was walking in circles, unable to break the spell and leave :)
Another round, and another water lily I missed before - a white one this time...
On my way out (finally :) ) I stopped by the water stream running
down the steps. The steps were covered with a layer of fallen leaves...
what a beautiful view it was.
At the end, I sat on a wooden bench, packing my gear before
leaving. I believe it was one of the best days I’ve had in the garden
for a long time. We’ll see if any of the upcoming weekends can beat this
one :)
