I had heard of this place but hadn't had a chance to explore the
area until a few weeks ago when I went there one morning and walked
around for a couple of hours learning about the ponds and habitants...
What can I say...it's a great place to take a lazy stroll, watch the birds and enjoy the small lakes and mountain views.
And the flowers...Don't forget the flowers...Some are colorful and vibrant, some are delicate and subtle ;)
I don't remember seeing so many herons in one place before ;) I
think I saw at least half a dozen of them that time. Some far away, some
close to the shore.
This Saturday the weather was nice and calm...and the water
reflected the trees surrounding the ponds and it was...just beautiful.
I liked the bench and stayed there for a while, admiring the lake visible through a gap in the trees.
A beautiful Eastern Kingbird was resting on the barbed wire dividing the fields...
...and an Osprey was soaring high above my head, looking for fish to catch.
Another heron flew over my head. I had no idea this bird was that big!
You can't walk around a body of water in Colorado without seeing a flock of Red-winged Blackbirds :)
Another heron was wandering around the shallows, and an Osprey was
in the sky. Well... I guess I found more than I expected on such a short
exploratory hike :)
I glanced at the mountains reflected in the lake and headed home. A
couple of hours there and I was ready for another week of work. I think
I'll come back and see what else I can find in Walden Ponds...
