Yellowstone Park - on the road from here to there - Part 6

It was a long day full of impressions after a mostly sleepless night so the following night we slept like a log (or better to say as a wood-pile ;) ). Next day in the morning we left the hotel early and were on the road again. First we stopped at the Upper Falls again and stayed there listening to the sound of crashing water...

On the road we stopped to look at the vistas and enjoy a mild Fall morning.

Soon we found another waterfall. This time it was the narrow stream of water running off the cliff and sparkling in the morning sun.

A few more miles and we found the vertical wall that looked like a petrified waterfall.

It was tall and so vertical and overpowered anyone who stayed next to it...

We enjoyed looking at the canyon the river had gnawn in millions of years...

We took a short hike which brought us to this petrified tree. We asked ourselves how this tree remained growing while the time turned it into a rock? Later we figured out that the volcano eruption immediately covered the trunk with dozens of feet of ash, buried it and kept it intact. The salts and minerals replaced the wood during the next thousands of years and time turned it into the stone... And now it still stays there like a monument reminding us what could happen and the Yellowstone super-volcano wakes up and does it again...

A few more waterfalls were on our way and we couldn't resist stopping and taking short hikes to see them...
