Yellowstone Park - buffalos and waterfalls - Part 2

We left Devil's Kitchen (mostly because no one offered us breakfast so we had no reason to stay longer) and moved further. We had something like 150 miles of the road to cover and multiple spots to see. And 150 miles is only the main road... Totally there are over 300 miles of accessible roads in the park. And don't forget they also have a lot of dirty roads and off-road trails. Not to mention hiking trails... But because we had very little time, we only counted to cover the main road so... 10 miles later we were stopped by a traffic jam caused by buffalo's herd walking on the road.

 

Buffalos there are untouchable and they know that. Meaning they pay zero attention to the cars and if they feel like grazing on the road shoulders and block the traffic - they are good and no one will drive them away ;)

So we moved slowly when we had a chance and finally left the herd behind and continued toward the Artist Point.

Yellowstone's most famous attraction is geysers. But there is something else one cannot really find anywhere else - Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone - gorgeous colorful canyon with two waterfalls. We drove along the south rim first, stopping everywhere and finally reached the Artist Point - the best viewpoint to enjoy the canyon.

On our way back we stopped at the viewpoint where you can see the Upper Falls. You cannot see this one from the Artist Point so we were eager to look at it. It's smaller than Lower Falls and looks different. By the way, the bridge behind the waterfall is the one we had to cross to return back to the main road.

And let's jump in time and look at the Upper Falls from the viewpoint just above it. It's unbelievable close and really noisy...

Next stop we made to take a hike down (150 steep steps) to have a better view at the river and the Lower Falls. Looking at the waterfall from about level of its top changed the view dramatically.

We crossed the canyon and continued on the North Rim road, stopping here and there to see the river, canyon and the waterfall from the opposite side.
