One day in New York - walking in Central Park or off the rails again ;)

To learn about our movement before we got off tracks click here - One day in New York - back on track and through the heart of the city

We were walking for over 4 hours now and... we were tired for sure, but more importantly we were overwhelmed with all these new impressions and our minds needed some rest. So many buildings... so many skyscrapers... so many people on Fifth Ave... We were looking for some escape and mental rest and... we found it! It is called nature and they have a big chunk of it just in the middle of Manhattan. They call it Central Park and we were just there ;) The long line of horse carriages stayed waiting for the passengers, but even tired we still preferred to walk...

I already mentioned the streets of the Big Apple were empty and peopleless (except Fifth Avenue).  It was a huge surprise for us as we expected a busy crowd as you can see in every movie. We didn't complain at all but found it strange. But another surprise was waiting for us and once we entered the Center Park we found where all of the New Yorkers disappeared. OK, understood... the crowd just moved from the streets of the city to the park to celebrate a nice warm day and Easter.

First we stopped outside of the fence to have a better look at the pond and the nice old bridge on the other side. Surprisingly, even though it was Spring, the colors looked more like Fall but it was even better and really cheered us up. So we entered the park and started aimlessly roaming along the trails.

Walking around the pond we admired the skyscrapers guarding just outside the park fence. It looked so weird to see this combination but gave us an understanding why the people like to go here. Such a nice escape...

As I said already, the weather was nice and mild and everything was blooming there. We were slowly strolling between the fragrant trees going with the flow and it was so relaxing... exactly what we needed at this moment ;)

Blossoming cherries (at least I think they were cherries) were absolutely astonishing...

We could barely see the huge rock because of all the people sitting on it and basking in the warm sun.

Didn't I tell you all of New York was here. Here is an example of what the less crowded alley looked like. Can you imagine the others? ;)

But it still was a beautiful feeling to walk, to look around and had all day to enjoy it. People were also strolling around us and many of them were riding bikes (below) or using the horse carriages (above).

What do you want to do? Wanna read? Play with your dog? Do some yoga or talk to your friends? You can do all of it or just sit on the grass and let the world wait for you to be back :)

Oh these flourishing trees...

We had an idea of renting the small boat but let it go. Pond traffic was way too strong and we weren't sure we could handle it...

So we waaaaalkeeeeed.....

This day the people were really enjoying every bit of it. So at some point we sat on the bench and just looked at the water streaming and boats slowly moving between weeping willows. Such a nice pastoral picture. I could weep with the willow just seeing it!

There was a regatta in another pond and a lot of bystanders rooting for their favorite boat (even though they looked the same from my view). Still wondering who won that time ;)

We finally reached the lake and... understood it was our time to go back to civilization and explore some more of the city, so we turned back...

Believe it or not, but we spent over two hours in the park and even though our legs were crying for rest, our minds were ready for a new portion of the impressions... So we found an exit and blended with the busy New Yorkers once again...
