Snow road from here to Cripple Creek

It was a snowy and cold Saturday in February. By Sunday snowfall stopped but the low clouds remained and covered the city. We returned back from our trip to Utah just before midnight (click here to learn about this trip - A 1000 miles is not a detour for the mad dog...) but in the morning we wanted to go somewhere else... We just cannot stay at home...

We still had this adventure rush so we decided to continue exploring the winter in the mountains...

We chose Cripple Creek as our destination, but wanted to take a longer way to see some other places too...

After just over an hour on the road we stopped at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and walked around the forest trail. That was absolutely amazing - fresh snow, bright sun and green spruces... And the petrified trees looked unbelievable - that was the very first time we ever saw something like that and we were really impressed.

We continued towards Cripple Creek but stopped on the road when we saw some llamas. Aren't they cute?

Finally we reached the outskirts of Cripple Creek and stopped to see this interesting memorial to the Vietnam and Korean wars.

Smallest General Store ever ;) Sure it's just an ad, but doesn't it look nice?

Normally you can see Cripple Creek from this viewpoint but not that time... That time all we could see was the low clouds hiding the town and creating a really mystical impression...
